The 1972 Miami Dolphins are the only franchise in NFL history ever to post a perfect season, capped off with a win in Super Bowl VII over the Washington Redskins, 14-7. This mark has never been beaten although several recent teams came close: the 1984 Chicago Bears (19-1, winners of Super Bowl XX); the 2007 New England Patriots (18-1, losers of Super Bowl XLII) and the 2011 Green Bay Packers (15-1, losers in the divisional playoffs).
