The Carolina Panthers have been a member of the NFL and NFC since 1995. The team appeared in the NFC Championship game in its second year of existence behind the coaching of Dom Capers and a 12-4 campaign, putting up a tough challenge to the eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers. In 2003, the Panthers would claim their first conference championship and a trip to Super Bowl XXXVIII where they narrowly lost to the New England Patriots 32-29 in one of the closest Super Bowl games ever.
