Originally known as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays when they joined the American League in 1998, the Rays have appeared in only one World Series. One of the youngest teams in Major League Baseball, the team has four playoff appearances and has boosted the careers of Carl Crawford, Evan Longoria, David Price, Melvin Upton and Julio Lugo. The team’s 97 win season in 2008 was its best performance so far, in which they also captured the league pennant.
