Formerly the California Angels, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim came into existence in 1961. The team originally went by the name Los Angeles Angels and was also called the Anaheim Angels at one point. Although it’s no longer its official title, most fans and members of the Associated Press refer to the team as the Los Angeles Angels. In its history, the team represented the American League in the World Series in 2002, winning the series 4-3 over the San Francisco Giants.
